Two exhibitions will kick off the holiday season at the Art Market Gallery and you are cordially invited to attend. The opening reception will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m., Nov. 7, during Downtown Knoxville’s monthly First Friday Art Walk, with complimentary refreshments and jazz and blues from the 1920s, ‘30s and ‘40s performed by Melanie and the Meltones.
Sponsored by Clayton Bank, recent works by our November featured artists, painter George Rothery and functional artist Kathy Lovelace, both of Knoxville, will be on display, plus a show of works by nine new members who were juried into the gallery this year.
The November 2014 Featured Artists Exhibit at The Art Market Gallery showcases the art work of George Rothery and Kathy Lovelace, both of Knoxville. Artist Kathy Lovelace will exhibit a collection of small furniture and home accessory pieces which she has painted to create functional works of art.
A longtime banker-turned-artist, Kathy Lovelace began her new career by creating an acrylic painting of a small-mouth bass for her husband, an avid fly-fisherman. She now specializes in the brook, brown and rainbow trout found in streams of the Great Smoky Mountains. Kathy describes her work as “functional art” since her paintings are depicted on small furniture and home accessories which then are protected with multiple coats of polycrylic to make them safe to use without fear of damage.
We very much look forward to seeing you at the opening reception — a great opportunity to meet our featured artists and newest members. And it’s easy to visit us downtown. The gallery, at 422 S. Gay St., is spacious and wheelchair accessible. Parking in public garages and on the street is free on weekends and after 6 p.m. weekdays.
